Thought to be a descendent of similar box-shaped percussion instruments from West Africa, the Cajon was developed by African musicians who, due to the scarcity of traditional African drums in Peru, repurposed wooden crates into percussion instruments. The Cajon became integral to Afro-Peruvian music and has since gained prominence in various musical genres worldwide, including salsa, flamenco, jazz, and beyond; it's influence extends far beyond it's humble beginnings.
Play it solo or to accompany other instruments: It's the perfect hand drum to grab for any playing or practise situation. The Cajon's compact size makes it the perfect classroom or rehearsal instrument, or a travel companion. Play it at the beach, around the campfire, at home or in performances.
The Mahalo MPJ1 Lap Top Cajon is a practical and fun alternative to the traditional box cajon. It features two 10" (255mm) wood playing surfaces and a 2.2 (56mm) deep shell with inbuilt snare.
Each Cajon comes with a Strap and Bag.
